a tyranny sincerely exercised

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies, The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

C.S. Lewis (1889-1963)

the king shall do according to his will

I posted Daniel 11:36-45 (AKJV) a few days ago, (1) to see what reaction I would get, and (2) to prompt some thinking on peoples part. I have now divided the passage up into paragraphs for the same reason. The first paragraph includes verse 36 and 37 which describe some of the characteristics of the man of sin, the ultimate example of a world leader. I do not call this person the antichrist as that would be going outside the context. All we know is that Daniel is giving us a description of a world leader, may even be a description of most world leaders to some degree - just this one takes the characteristics to the maximum degree.  I will be adding more on recurring basis - but I am also interested in others opinion.

Example: "magnify himself above every god" -- has our president done that: "We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values." Interesting blog on this statement: http://tpo.net/Christian/index.htm

"Love thy neighbor as thyself?"

This morning I was following the President's speech on Prayer.  He made the quote, "Love they neighbor as thyself" and implied that all religions profess this - not just denominations or the christians catholic. Finally it was crystal clear - we, as Christians have been confronted with a new age spiritualism.  As Christians, many of us accept other Christians, not necessarily based upon Denomination, but based on their profession of faith. Roman Catholic to Independents, I only look for their profession of the Lord Jesus Christ as the fundamental doctrine. They pronounce Him as Lord, Savior and the sacrifice of His body on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection as the basis of their salvation. I guess what bothered me about the quotation is the connotation of what it actually meant.

The Law and the Prophets

Matt 22:36-40 (KJV)

36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.

The first half of the law or commandments,  cover our relationship to God.

39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

The second half of the law or commandments, cover our relationship with mankind.

40 On these two commandments hang ALL the law and the prophets

Iran - freedom ...

In the final analysis, whomever wins in Iran - the policies don't change much, just the tactfulness of their execution. Mousavi wants us to see that destroying Israel is in the worlds best interest (the opposition) while Ahmadinejad doesn't care whether we agree or disagree. Same policy and same intent, only different set of players. I almost think I prefer Ahmadinejad since I know where he is coming from: doesn't believe in the holocaust, thinks U.S. is the great Satan, wants us out of Iraq ? and for that matter wants us out of all of middle east.
